Deva Movie Review

Shahid Kapoor is in top form in Deva, anchoring a slick, high-energy thriller that takes the core of Mumbai Police (2013) and spins it into a Bollywood-style spectacle. Director Rosshan Andrrews reworks his own Malayalam film, adding just the right amount of masala while tailoring the narrative to Shahid’s brooding intensity.

The film dives into the mind of Dev Ambre, a hardened Mumbai cop with a troubled past and a penchant for using his fists more than his words. When an accident wipes his memory, he’s left with only his instincts—and a whole lot of enemies. With a high-profile case hanging in the balance, Dev must piece together his past while dodging bullets and betrayals.

Memory loss is a well-worn trope, but Deva injects it with enough adrenaline and grit to keep things engaging. The film seamlessly blends psychological tension with fast-paced action, making sure there’s never a dull moment. While Shahid dominates the screen, the supporting cast, including Pravesh Rana and Pavail Gulati, add depth to the story. Pooja Hegde’s journalist character, though underutilized, helps drive the narrative forward.

Yes, we’ve seen renegade cops before, but Deva keeps the audience hooked with its unpredictable twists and stylish execution. Even if you know Mumbai Police, this one has enough surprises to keep you invested. At its core, it’s a Shahid Kapoor showcase—but that’s far from a bad thing.
